ICM Partners has set a strategic alliance with the Sagalyn Agency which will be renamed ICM/Sagalyn. As Variety noted: “Sagalyn is a prosperous boutique run by Raphael Sagalyn, who reps a roster of more than 100 authors. The agency largely focuses on non-fiction writers, including journos, academics and business leaders, though it does rep some fiction heavyweights as well.”
Amazon announced it will launch Amazon Publishing in Europe from its EU headquarters in Luxembourg. Victoria Griffith, who headed Amazon Publishing in Seattle, will move to Luxembourg in early 2013, and in her place, Larry Kirshbaum, Publisher of Amazon Publishing New York, now assumes editorial leadership for Seattle and New York. Daphne Durham, was promoted to Editor-in-Chief, reporting to Kirshbaum. Philip Patrick now heads business development, rights and sales across all imprints.
PROMOTIONS
Robert Thomson will be named CEO of the division of News Corp, which is dividing its assets into two separate offspring companies. Thomson’s new position will oversee the division that will include the newspaper and other publishing assets. Thomson is currently Editor in Chief of Dow Jones and Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal. Gerard Baker will succeed him in his editorial roles.
Patrick Price has just been named the Editorial Director of Simon Pulse. Patrick started at Simon & Schuster with the launch of SSE in 2003. Previously, Patrick worked at ICM and Random House/Ballantine in publicity.
At Random House, London King has been named Deputy Director of Publicity, Alison Masciovecchio has been promoted to Publicity Manager, Greg Kubie has been promoted to Senior Publicist, and Steve Boriack has been promoted to Associate Publicist.
IN MEMORIAM
Christopher Davis, Former DK Cofounder and Publisher has died at age 71. He spent 33 years with the company and wrote about it in Eyewitness: The rise and fall of Dorling Kindersley.
Literary Agent Robert P. Lescher died on November 28 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife and partner in Lescher & Lescher, Susan, daughters Katie, Margaret and Susannah and granddaughter.
