Nan A. Talese will retire from her position as President, Publisher, and Editorial Director of her own imprint at Doubleday at the end of the year. She joined Random House in 1959 as a copywriter and went on to found the Nan. A Talese imprint in 1990. Elsewhere at PRH, Comedian Phoebe Robinson is launching an imprint with Plume called Tiny Reparations Press. Christine Ball, Publisher of Dutton and Plume, will serve as Publisher while Robinson will be Founder. Lisa Lucas, Executive Director of the National Book Foundation, will depart that role to become the new SVP and Publisher of Pantheon and Schocken Books at the end of her work with the 2020 National Book Awards. At Clarkson Potter, SVP and Editor-in-Chief Doris Cooper and Executive Editor Amanda Englander will both leave later this summer.

At Zondervan, Megan Dobson joins as VP, Publisher for Zonderkidz. She was previously Publisher for Christian Audio.

Rakesh Satyal has departed his position as Senior Editor at Atria to join the HarperOne Group as Executive Editor on July 27. He will acquire for HarperOne, HarperVia, Amistad, and HarperCollins Español.

At LibraryPass, Ian Singer joins as CEO. He was previously Strategic Advisor at Capira Technologies, LLC.

In university press news, Stephanie Williams will take over as Director of Wayne State University Press in August, replacing interim director Kathryn Wildfong. Williams was formerly Director at Ohio University Press. Georgetown University Press is launching a publishing program in global business and the global economy, to be headed by Senior Acquisitions Editor Hilary Claggett. The program will release twenty titles a year beginning in 2021.

In agency news…Stephanie Cabot joins Susanna Lea Associates, working primarily from the New York office. She was most recently Literary Agent with The Gernert Company. Jessica Felleman, formerly Agent at Foundry Literary + Media, joins Jennifer Lyons Literary Agency as Literary Agent. At Marsal Lyon Literary Agency, Jolene Haley, formerly Junior Literary Agent at Corvisiero Literary Agency, joins as Literary Agent. Vanessa Campos, formerly Sales and Marketing Director at Entrepreneur Press, joins D4EO Literary Agency as Agent. At Harvey Klinger, Analieze Cervantes and Jennifer Herrington join as Associate Agents. And at Aevitas Creative Management, Rob Arnold will become Consulting Agent. He is presently Program Director at Seattle’s Hugo House.

Stephen S. Power joins ghostwriting and publishing services firm Kevin Anderson & Assocates as Executive Editor. He had been working as Executive Editor at Thomas Dunne.

 

PROMOTIONS

Effective August 31, Karey Circosta has been promoted to Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Ave Maria Press, succeeding Tom Grady, who is retiring. Circosta is the first woman to serve as publisher for the press in its 155-year history.

Patricia Fidler, presently Publisher for Art and Architecture at Yale University Press, will take on the new role of Executive Director of the Art and Architecture ePortal on September 1.

At Aevitas Creative Management, David Kuhn and Todd Shuster become Co-CEOs; Esmond Harmsworth becomes President; Chelsey Heller becomes Agent; and Erin Files becomes Foreign Rights Director. Justin Brouckaert and Maggie Cooper become Agents.

Margaret Coffee is now Director of Sales, Schools, Libraries, and Independent Bookstores at Sourcebooks. Heather VenHuizen becomes Art Director, and Jenna Quatraro becomes Senior Graphic Design Manager. Luanne Syrek has been promoted to Systems Analyst, Level II.

Nicole Higman has been promoted to Associate Director of Digital Marketing for the Workman Publishing imprint. Allison Huggins moves up to Senior Manager of Foreign Rights and Co-Editions for Workman Publishing, Algonquin Books, Algonquin Young Readers, Artisan, duopress, and Erewhon.

At Princeton University Press, Meagan Levinson becomes Executive Editor, Sociology and Head of Paperback Publishing.

At Rowman & Littlefield, Shaina Amienyi has been promoted to Manager of Electronic Publishing and Ashley Baird has been promoted to Assistant Managing Editor.

Jenny Chen has been promoted to Editor at Crooked Lane Books and Alcove Press, where she will acquire crime and book club fiction.

Marvel Entertainment and Scholastic are expanding their partnership with a multi-year original graphic novel program featuring Marvel superheroes including Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, and Shuri. This initiative will launch through the Graphix Media imprint in spring 2021.

Penguin Random House India will handle sales and distribution throughout India and the subcontinent for Sourcebooks and Fitzcarraldo Editions.
