David Wan will retire as CEO of Harvard Business Publishing this June, having led the publisher since 2002. SVP and Chief Product Innovation Officer Josh Macht will take over as Acting CEO until a permanent successor is found.

Effective March 8, Mary Marotta will join Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group as SVP, Group Sales Director. She is currently SVP, DK North America.

On March 15, Richard Rhorer, presently Deputy Publisher of the Simon & Schuster trade imprint, will become Publisher of a new, yet-to-be-named nonfiction lifestyle imprint.

Matty Goldberg, VP of Sales and Acquisitions at Ingram Content Group, is retiring at the end of March after forty-five years in the industry.

Disney Television Studios is forming a new creative acquisitions department. Elizabeth Newman and Jordan Moblo will lead the team, with Newman serving as VP, Creative Acquisitions and Moblo serving as Director of Creative Acquisitions. Most recently, Newman was VP, Development at Touchstone Television, while Moblo secured IP rights at 20th Television.

At the National Book Foundation, Ruth Dickey has been chosen as the new Executive Director. She has been Executive Director of Seattle Arts & Letters since 2013 and succeeds Lisa Lucas, who departed at the end of 2020 to become SVP and Publisher of Pantheon and Shocken Books. Dickey will begin in her new position on May 17 to permit for a smooth transition from Seattle Arts & Letters, whose annual gala is held in April. NBF Deputy Director Jordan Smith will continue as Interim Executive Director until then.

Angus Yuen-Killick, most recently Associate Publisher at Macmillan Children’s, is launching his own children’s publishing company, Red Comet Press. The press will debut in Fall 2021 with three picture books and one illustrated novel for older readers.

Following restructuring in the consumer division of Bloomsbury USA, three staffers are departing the company, including VP, Publishing Director Cindy Loh. Her duties will be taken over by Adrienne Vaughan, Executive Director and COO.

At Phaidon, Linda Brennan retired as VP of Global Marketing and Communications on January 27.

At the Mayo Clinic Press, Nina Weiner has been named Editor-in-Chief and is the first to hold that newly-created position. She was previously Managing Editor at Taschen.

Center Street has begun a search to replace Editorial Director Kate Hartson, who was fired last month. The imprint will remain focused on conservative, leadership, and military books.

Nicole Morano joins Pushkin Industries as Publicity Director. Most recently she was Senior Publicity Manager for Penguin Random House Audio. Additionally, Kerri Kolen, lately Editorial Senior Director & Executive Producer at Audible, joins Pushkin as Editorial Director for Audiobooks.

In agency news…Kaitlyn Sanchez joins Red Fox Literary Agency as Agent. She was formerly Associate Agent at Olswanger Literary. At Dystel, Goderich & Bourret, Cat Hosch joins as Finance Manager and Andrew Dugan joins as Finance and Subrights Associate. Literary Agent Nicole James is leaving Chalberg & Sussman to start her own agency, The James Literary Agency.

Jennifer Baker, formerly Managing Editor at Random House, joins Amistad as Senior Editor.

Jaime Coyne, formerly Associate Editor at UpShot Studios, joins Kevin Anderson & Associates as Senior Editor.

At Lake Union Press, Melissa Valentine joins as Editor. She was previously Executive Editor at Callisto Media.

Author and editor Sarah Weinman, former News Editor at Publishers Lunch, has joined The New York Times Book Review as Crime Columnist. Marilyn Stasio, who has written the column since 1988, is retiring.

At Chronicle Books, Jessica Mays joins as Senior Sales Manager, Off-Price & Mass Markets. Anastasia Scott, formerly Marketing and Publicity Manager at Laurence King Publishing, joins as Marketing Manager, Art. Additionally, Sam Mariucci joins as Financial Analyst and Joelle Engolia joins as Marketing Manager, Games & Toys.

Nana-Ama Danquah and Lorinda Toledo both join Jaded Ibis Press as Acquisitions Editor. Danquah is an author, editor, and freelance journalist. Toledo was previously Fiction Editor at Witness.

At Graywolf Press, Ill Nippashi joins as Marketing Associate.

 

PROMOTIONS

At Knopf and Pantheon, Erinn Hartman has been named VP, Senior Director of Publicity, while Kathy Zuckerman moves up to Director of Publicity and both Emily Reardon and Rose Cronin-Jackson become Publicists. Martha Rago is now VP at Random House Children’s Books. In the publishing operations department at Penguin Random House, Hanna Glidden and Amanda Rodell both become Directors and Kim Wiley is promoted to Manager.

At Workman Publishing, Jodi Weiss is now Chief Sales Officer. This marks the first time in company history that all sales have been integrated under one umbrella.

Noleen Robinson is now Head of Insight at HarperCollins. At Zondervan Bibles, Emily Tobin moves up to Marketing Director.

At TKO Studios, Marc Visnick has been promoted to VP of Sales and Business Development.

Siobhan Bent has been named Global Director of Marketing & Publicity for Phaidon.

At Flatiron Books, Nadxieli Nieto has been promoted to Executive Editor. Allegra Green is now Marketing Manager at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, where Dawn Ryan moves up to Executive Managing Editor and Aurora Parlagreco becomes Associate Art Director. Also in the children’s group, Kate Avino moves up to Assistant Editor, Odd Dot; Foyinsi Adegbonmire becomes Associate Editor, Feiwel & Friends; Samia Fikh becomes Assistant Editor and Kiara Valdez becomes Associate Editor, both for First Second Books; and Trisha de Guzman to Editor, FSG Children’s.

In agency news…Sharon Pelletier has been promoted to Senior Agent at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret, where Amy Bishop is now Agent and Digital Coordinator and Michaela Whatnall is now Film Rights Coordinator. Heather Carr moves up to Agent at The Friedrich Agency. At Martin Literary & Management, Adria Goetz becomes Senior Literary Manager.

DULY NOTED

Rowman & Littlefield has acquired select trade titles from equestrian publisher Eclipse Press. The titles have been acquired from the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, which has had sole oversight of Eclipse since 2015. Lyons Press, the Rowman & Littlefield trade imprint, will begin reissuing titles in the fall.
