At Hachette VP Publisher of James Patterson books, Ned Rust is leaving Little, Brown “to pursue other opportunities.” Samantha Smith will take over as VP, Publisher for James Patterson books, reporting to Sally Kim, President and Publisher of Little, Brown. She was most recently at Pan Macmillan as Publisher, Fiction and Nonfiction, children’s and YA. Also at Hachette, Tiffany Porcelli has been promoted to marketing director, Grand Central Publishing. Alexandra Hernandez has been promoted to publicity manager, Balance. Laura Gonzalez has joined as associate marketing manager. She was previously senior marketing associate at Harper Amistad/Harper Via. Rachel Rodrigeuz has joined as marketing associate. She was previously a marketing assistant at Crown. At Running Press, Madeleine Shalaby has joined as associate editor.
HarperCollins’ Harlequin Publishing has restructured its trade division, moving from five to three imprints. The publisher will keep all staff and publish the same number of titles among Mira Books, Park Row Books, and Hanover Square Press, joining editorial director Peter Joseph, executive editor John Glynn, associate editor Grace Towery, and editorial assistant Eden Railsback. Mira Books will absorb Canary Street Press and Graydon House will be phased out by the end of year. At Harlequin, senior editor April Osborn, editor Dina Davis, and editorial assistant Evan Yeong will move from Mira Books to Hanover Square. Senior editors Meredith Clark and associate editor Leah Mol will move from Mira to Park Row, joining editorial director Erika Imranyi, executive editor Annie Chagnot and editorial assistant SarahElizabeth Lee. The Mira team will now comprise editorial director Susan Swinwood, executive editor Michele Bidelspach, senior editor Melanie Fried, senior editor Cat Clyne, associate editor Sarah Rodgers, assistant editor Lynn Raposo, and editorial assistant Marina Green.
At The New York Times, Pamela Paul, longtime editor of the New York Times Book Review who moved to the Opinion section in 2022, will depart as part of downsizing being made at the section.
Barnes & Noble’s chief merchandising officer since 2020 Jackie De Leo has left the company. In regards to queries the company has asked publishers to address Lindsay Bogard at lbogard@bn.com (associate director, commercial strategy of children’s YA books). Additionally, it was also announced that Stephanie Fryling, vice president, commercial strategy and category management has after 12 years in October to join Penguin Random House.
At Penguin Random House, Tara Gilbride will rejoin the group on January 13th as director, marketing and publicity at Crown Currency. Hilary Redmon will join Knopf as vice president, editorial director of nonfiction, starting February 14. She was most recently vice president, editorial director of nonfiction for Random House. Katelyn Hemmeke has joined Inklore as editor. She was most recently at Webtoon.
At Simon & Schuster, Alyssa Weinberg has joined as an associate marketing manager. She was formerly an assistant marketing manager at Holt. Hanna Brattesani has joined the flagship imprint in the newly created role of backlist manager. She was most recently literary agent and director of international rights at The Friedrich Agency. Bridget Thoreson has joined as director of client publishing operations. Thoreson was previously vice president of operations at Ulysses Press. At Simon & Schuster Audio, former Polis founder and publisher Jason Pinter joined the division in November as vice president, editorial director of Simon Maverick, a new line that acquires and publishes audiobooks from self-published authors. At Simon Element, Carah Gedeon joins as a publicist. She was previously at Fortier Public Relations.
At Macmillan, Marc Resnick will continue as vice president and editorial director, now focusing on nonfiction.
At HarperCollins, Sarah Bode joined as associate director of marketing at Holt. She was previously at Penguin Random House. Andy Tan-Delli Cicchi has joined as associate editor of Holt. He was previously at Spiegel and Grau. At Dey Street, Libby Burton has joined as vice president, editorial director, overseeing acquisitions for the imprint while also building out the list for the new Harper Pop line. She was previously executive editor at Crown. At Mariner, Caroline Zancan has joined as editorial director of fiction. She was previously executive editor at Holt.
At Norton, Elizabeth Gaffin has joined as the newly-created role of client services director for the Norton Trade Group. She was previously director of Publisher Services at Artbook/D.A.P.. Andrew Gibeley has joined the trade publicity department as publicity manager. He was most recently senior publicist at Abrams Books.

NYU’s Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts (PALA) is now The Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media. Associate Dean of the program, Andrea Chambers, notes: “We believe that this name more accurately reflects our mission to educate, lead, and innovate in the world of global communications for the benefit of our students and academic community.”
The BINC Foundation is raising money to support bookstores and booksellers affected by disasters, most recently the wildfires in California. They will match up to a total of $45,000. The matching funds will be provided by Dav Pilkey, Forefront Books, Ingram Content Group, Macmillan Publishers, and Mad Cave Studios, following a $10,000 match from Bookshop.org,
Michael Jacobs, formerly president and CEO of Abrams Books, and Sheridan Hay have launched Filmore Projects, which will provide “executive coaching, organizational development and board governance, structure and strategic advice for profit and non-profit enterprises in publishing and the creative arts”. They also will provide editorial development and launch a publishing and packaging imprint Galpόn Press, which will debut in fall 2025.
