Charlie Winton, Chairman, CEO and Publisher of Counterpoint, announced today that he will step down as Publisher of the company. Rolph Blythe has been named Publisher of Counterpoint/Soft Skull and will begin at the Counterpoint offices in Berkeley on May 1, 2013. Winton will remain Chairman and CEO, and will also continue to acquire books as an Executive Editor-at-Large.
Michele Martin will be joining Simon & Schuster as VP and Associate Publisher for the Gallery Books Group, reporting to Louise Burke. Martin was at S&S from 1994-1999 and has held positions at Avalon, Langenscheidt and Doubleday, where she created and oversaw the Main Street Books imprint. She will “work closely” with Jen Bergstrom, who was recently promoted to Publisher of Gallery Books.
Holly Dolce has joined Abrams as Executive Editor; she was formerly a Senior Editor and Producer at Melcher Media.
Twisne Fan is returning to Macmillan as Vice President, Trade Manufacturing and Production after 16 years at Simon & Schuster. Fan replaces Karen Gilles who is retiring.
The Frankfurt Book Fair has hired Michelle Turnbach as Sales Manager for English-language World, based in New York. She was previously with Baker & Taylor, working on their European and Southeast Asian retail opportunities. Also, NY-based Director of the German Book Office, Riky Stock, will add managing the Literary Agents and Scouts Centre at the book fair to her role.
Following its sale to the Leon D. Black family last October, Managing Director Amanda Ridout announced her decision to leave Phaidon to pursue personal projects.

Patricia Arancibia has joined Apple as head of the iBookstore‘s European operations. Previously, she was Editorial Director, International Acquisition & Relations – International Digital Content at Barnes & Noble.

PROMOTIONS
Anne Messitte has been named Executive Vice President of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. She will continue as Publisher, Vintage Anchor Books, reporting to Sonny Mehta.
Mary Wilcox has been promoted to the newly-created position of VP and Editor in Chief of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers.
Catherine Burke has been promoted to Publisher, Sphere Fiction at Little, Brown UK, effective immediately. She has been with the company for three years.
Suzie Sisoler has been promoted to Senior Director of Consumer Engagement at Penguin, and will oversee the Consumer Engagement group formerly known as the Online Consumer Sales and Marketing group. Katherine Tiernan McCahill has been promoted to Assistant Director of the Digital Products Group. She joined Penguin as Online Development Manager in July 2008.
Michael Perlman has been promoted to Vice President, Director, Client Sales & Services at S&S. In his new capacity, Michael will continue to oversee the sales and marketing initiatives of all their distribution client titles. Michael joined Simon & Schuster in 2005 as National Accounts Manager for Sam’s Club and BJ’s, and in 2007 he was named Director, Client Sales & Services.
Al Greco has been appointed CEO of Carson-Dellosa Publishing, the Greensboro, North Carolina-based publisher of supplemental materials for elementary and middle school teachers and parents, succeeding Judy Harris. Greco joined Carson-Dellosa in 2011 as Senior VP of Sales, Promotions and Marketing after serving in a number of VP Sales roles at Random House.
Avideh Bashirrad, formerly Director of Marketing, has been promoted to VP, Associate Publisher for the Random House and Dial Press imprints, reporting to Susan Kamil. Bashirrad, who recently returned to the company after maternity leave, will focus on the imprints’ fiction lists, while Deputy Publisher Tom Perry will concentrate on nonfiction, as well as his role of Publisher of the Modern Library.
Leigh Merchant has been promoted to Director of Marketing for Random House, Spiegel & Grau, Dial Press, and the Modern Library, working on both hardcover and trade paperbacks. Merchant will continue in her dual role as Associate Publisher, Spiegel & Grau.
