Current company President, Sara Domville will leave F + W, where she worked for seventeen years.

Betsy Groban left Houghton Mifflin Harcourt where she worked as Senior VP and Publisher of children’s books.

Deb Brody, the current Executive Editor at William Morrow/HarperCollins, will join Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as Editorial Director (lifestyle and culinary) on July 18. Also, Cheryl Dickemper is joining Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as National Sales Manager. She was previously Director of Content Acquisitions at Booksource.

Following the acquisition of Perseus, Mike Heuer, Executive Director of Field Sales, is leaving Hachette Book Group. VP of National Accounts Maha Khalil and National Account Manager James Chan will leave Perseus at the end of the year.

Cliff Manko joined Beacon Press as CFO. He was previously SVP of finance for the Higher Education Group at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Sherry Beck Paprocki is to take over as Board President of the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She is also President at R.S. Rock Media, Inc. Milt Toby, author and photographer, is to become Vice President.

Current Graywolf Press Publisher, Fiona McCrae will join the National Book Foundation board of directors.

Doug Reil is to step down as Executive Director and Publisher at North Atlantic BooksTim McKee, who was Director of Publishing, will serve as Interim Publisher.

The current Editor in Chief at ExpressEdit, Carl Lennertz will join the Children’s Book Council and Every Child A Reader as Executive Director in August. Previously he was Executive Director of World Book Night U.S.

At agencies…Paula Canal joined Indent Literary Agency as Agent and Foreign Rights Director. She has been the Foreign Rights Manager at Anagrama and will continue to handle foreign rights for the company from her position at Indent. Previously Managing Director of Egmont USA, Andrea Cascardi joined Transatlantic Agency as Agent, where she worked before her post at Egmont. Rich Pascocello joined Glass Literary Management as Agent. He was previously VP, executive director of marketing, at Penguin Random House. Cathryn Summerhayes will join Curtis Brown UK as Agent in September. She comes from William Morris Endeavor where she has worked as Literary Agent.

Alexis Kirschbaum will join Bloomsbury UK in September as Publishing Director. She currently works as Editorial Director at Penguin Press UK.

Starting in August, Jackie Engel will join Little, Brown Books for Young Readers as VP, Associate Publisher. She was previously VP and Group Sales Director at Penguin Books for Young Readers.

At Simon & Schuster, Sean Manning joined as Senior Editor. He formerly worked as Articles Editor at Popular Mechanics. Michael Strother has joined Harlequin Teen as Editor. He was previously Editor at Simon Pulse/ Simon & Schuster.

Priyanka Krishnan joined William Morrow and the Harper Voyager as Editor. She was previously Associate Editor at Ballantine.

Rachel Poloski joined Random House Children’s as Editor. Previously, she was Associate Editor at Disney Publishing’s Marvel. Juliana Horbachevsky joined the Crown Publishing Group as Senior Publicist. She was previously a publicist at AbramsAlexandra Morrison was hired as Email Marketing Manager; she was previously Audience/Email Manager for Library Journal. Dan Franklin will leave Penguin Random House UK where he was Digital Publisher.

Zaneta Jung joined Chronicle Books as Assistant Editor. She was previously Assistant Editor for children’s books at Sterling.

Kyle Radler joined Norton as Senior Publicist. He was previously Publicist at Scribner.

At Ten Speed Press, Natalie Mulford was promoted to Senior Marketing and Publicity Manager.

At Scholastic, Rachel Feld joined as Marketing Director. She was previously Marketing Director at Random House Children’s. Jennifer Powell, previously VP of North American Sales at Igloo Books, has joined as Director of Rights & Co-Editions. Stephen Mei joined as Associate Project Manager, Multiplatform Publishing. He was previously Associate Producer at THIS IS POP.

At Bloomsbury, Brittany Mitchell joined as Marketing Assistance. She previously served as Marketing Associate at Holiday House Books.

Jennifer Metzger has joined Insight Editions as Sales Manager. She previously served as Director of Business Development at Mrs. Grossman’s Paper Company and National Sales Manager at both Cedco Publishing and Palm Press.

Matt Mullin joined Ingram’s Lightning Source as Key Accounts Sales Manager. Previously, he worked as Sales Director at The Reading Room.

Jeremy Matthews is joining MIT Press as Acquisitions Editor for the physical sciences, engineering, and math. He was most recently Books Editor at the American Institute of Physics.

Courtney Andree joined Yale University Press as Publicist; she was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Washington University in St. Louis.

PROMOTIONS

Paul Kelly will become CFO for DK Worldwide. He is currently Strategy and Commercial Director at Penguin Random House U.K. & International.

At 800-CEO-READ, Carol Grossmeyer will retire as CEO, and Rebecca Schwartz, current chair of the board of directors, will be her successor.

At the Quarto Group, Ken Fund was promoted to Chief Operating Officer; David Breuer was promoted to Chief Creative Officer; and David Inman will become Managing Director.

At Harlequin, Bryony Green has been promoted to Executive Editor for UK acquisitions. Joanne Grant is now Editorial Director for Harlequin Mills & Boon. Flo Nicoll became Senior Editor for Harlequin Presents. At Harlequin UK, Lucy Gough was promoted to Assistant Managing Editor.

Shannon Welch was promoted at Scribner to Executive Editor. Taylor Noel and Rosie Mahorter were both promoted to Associate Publicist.

Jason Gardner is now Executive Editor at New World Library.

At William Morrow and Avon, Nicole Fischer was promoted to Associate Editor.

Cheryl Ringer was promoted to Editor at McGraw-Hill Professional.

Jessica Renheim is being promoted to Editor at Dutton.

At Norton, Elisabeth Kerr became the new Director of Subsidiary Rights, and Mary Kate Skehan became Assistant Manager of Subsidiary Rights.

At Crown, Danielle Crabtree was promoted to Senior Marketing Manager for Crown, Hogarth, Broadway, and time Duggan Books. Alana Buckbee was promoted to Assistant Director, community development. Emily Panchame was promoted to Manager, community development. Henri Clinch is now Senior Manager, audience development.

At Simon & Schuster, Dana Trocker was promoted to Associate Director of Marketing.

At Penguin, Kristin Matzen was promoted to Publicity Manager. Ryan Murphy is the new Digital Marketing Manager. Nora McCarthy was promoted to Marketing Coordinator.

At Beacon Press, Caitlin Meyer is now Publicity Manager, and Nicholas DiSabatino was promoted to Publicist.

At Berkley, Danielle Dill and Jessica Brock are both being promoted to Publicist.

At Hachette Book Group, Ali Coughlin has been promoted to Director of Online Sales, Lily Goldman has been promoted to Account Marketing Manager, and Sharon Huerta has been promoted to Executive Director of Special Sales.

IN MEMORIAM

Martin Levin, 97, has died. Still in practice, he had been with Cowan Liebowitz Latman since 1984, after serving as president of the Times Mirror Book Publishing Group, and then getting his law degree. Levin taught at the Stanford Publishing Course and helped lead efforts to re-establish the program as the Yale Publishing Course.

DULY NOTED

Carla Hayden was confirmed to serve as Librarian of Congress. She is currently head of Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library system.

Random House Children’s Books will launch a new imprint Make Me A World in 2018 with author and artist Christopher Myers. Myer’s vision for the imprint is to publish books that inspire young readers. Jenny Brown, publisher at Knopf Young Readers, will oversee the imprint.

Quarto Publishing acquired the assets of Whitehorse Press, which will now be published under the Motorbooks imprint.

The Center for Fiction has announced their 2016 First Novel Prize Long List, featuring twenty-five fiction debuts. The prize will be awarded to what is judged as the best debut novel of the year. The Short List, comprised of the nominees, will be announced in September.

Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is launching a new imprint, named “Imprint,” which will publish commercial fiction for those under eighteen-years- old. They plan to release twelve new titles this year.
